JPG is widely accepted for photographs and product uploads. PNG supports transparent backgrounds and can suit screenshots or graphics. WebP can offer smaller web images with transparency. File sizes depend on the source and quality settings, so compare the converted result rather than choosing by extension alone.
Questions about converting image formats
What happens when I convert a transparent PNG to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent pixels are placed on the JPEG background color you choose, which defaults to white. Use PNG or a supported WebP output when transparency needs to remain.
Does converting a JPG to PNG restore image quality?
No. Converting to PNG does not recover information already lost in the original JPG. It changes how the decoded image is saved and may create a larger file.
Can I convert animated images or keep EXIF metadata?
The tool exports one still frame and does not preserve source metadata such as EXIF. It is designed for static JPG, PNG and WebP images. WebP export availability depends on your browser.
